Loan move agreed for United keeper Kovar

Manchester United Under-23s keeper Matej Kovar has joined League One newcomers Swindon Town on loan for the 2020/21 season.

The 20-year-old, who was on the bench for the Europa League tie against Astana last year, embarks on his first temporary move away from the club following a successful season for Neil Wood’s side, which saw them achieve promotion.

Kovar joined United in 2018 from FC Slovacko and has featured 45 times in competitive games, across the Under-18s and Under-23s, keeping 13 clean sheets in the process.

Matej Kovar enjoyed a fine season in 2019/20 with United's Under-23s.

The Czech Republic Under-20 international will now join up with former United Academy player, and current Swindon Town manager, Richie Wellens as he embarks on his first experience of regular senior football.

It has been a busy week for United’s goalkeeping department with Dean Henderson signing a new contract until June 2025, with the option to extend for a further year, on Wednesday.

Kovar is the third player to make a temporary move away from United during the window following Tahith Chong and Aliou Traore. The process enables the club’s young players to benefit from facing senior opposition on a regular basis.

Everybody at United would like to wish Matej the best of luck this term as we will follow his progress at the County Ground.
