Which United legend has just joined Instagram?

Roy Keane was adored by Manchester United supporters and revered by his peers on the pitch during 12 trophy-laden years - and now he looks set to achieve the same adulation on social media.

The legendary Reds midfielder made his Instagram debut on Friday night, with a selfie featuring his dog and the caption "A man's best friend", and had already accrued more than 700,000 followers by Saturday morning.

The account reached one million followers inside 40 hours, with only two images posted.

His appearance with the verified account @officialkeane16 will delight many fans but may surprise some, given how closely he has guarded his privacy in the past.

Keane's first post has been a huge hit with Instagram followers.
Keane has also shown occasional disdain for the way some current footballers use social media, when working as a pundit for Sky Sports.

His no-nonsense opinions on matchdays have already unwittingly made him a social media star; his bouts of verbal sparring with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, ex-Manchester City defender Micah Richards and former United team-mate Gary Neville have often 'gone viral', racking up millions of views on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
The Irishman is the latest member of our Treble-winning squad to be followed by our official Instagram account, after Paul Scholes, Dwight Yorke, Wes Brown, David May, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Peter Schmeichel, David Beckham and Andy Cole.

Other ex-Reds to look out for on the social media platform include Dimitar Berbatov, Eric Cantona, Patrice Evra, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robin van Persie. Like Keane's brand new account, their pages can all be found on the 'following' list via @manchesterunited on Instagram.
