Does Rooney think his bicycle kick is better than Garnacho's?

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has finally weighed in on a key debate: was his bicycle kick against Manchester City better than Alejandro Garnacho's at Everton?

Appearing on BBC Match of the Day to analyse Wednesday's late win at Nottingham Forest in the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup - thanks to a vital header from Casemiro - our record scorer was quizzed on the debate that has raged on since Garnacho netted acrobatically at Goodison Park in November.

Alejandro's effort, in a 3-0 win, was instantly compared to Rooney's matchwinner in the 2011 Manchester derby at Old Trafford, for the way both players seemingly defied gravity to connect with the ball and find the top corner.

When asked which was a better goal, our former captain joked about which part of his body he used to direct the ball beyond Joe Hart.

"I have always said, it is actually harder to score with your shin!" he laughed.

"I honestly don't know [whether it struck my shin or my foot].

"I think Garnacho's was better. I think Garnacho's goal was a better goal, but I think doing it against Manchester City was a better game."

Both finishes were spectacular, that much is clear.

But, as Rooney says, there are elements of each strike that differ and, of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Watch both goals above and then vote for your favourite in our poll below.

With City our next opponents, at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (15:30 GMT), United fans will be hoping one of Erik ten Hag's men - possibly Garnacho - can produce such a magical moment once more to gain victory at the home of our neighbours.
