Manchester United's starting line-up against Real Sociedad

Revealed: United's Man of the Match v Real Sociedad

Thursday 18 February 2021 22:10

The result of Manchester United's official Man of the Match poll was almost as comprehensive as the team's victory on the pitch against Real Sociedad.

While there were clearly some excellent performances throughout the team, one man stood out once again for the fans voting in our Official App.

Bruno Fernandes was the runaway winner of the award, after scoring the Reds' first two goals, either side of half-time, and creating numerous openings for his team.

The Portuguese magnifico picked up three-quarters of the vote, with his nearest challengers not getting into double-figure percentages.

That's not to knock the contributions of his team-mates, who together produced what was arguably United's most complete performance of the season, but the margin of victory in the voting emphasises just how important a figure Fernandes is. This was his 11th Man of the Match award of the season and his third in the last four games.

The joint runners-up in the Real Sociedad poll were midfielder Fred, who set up the third goal by threading a perfectly weighted through ball to Marcus Rashford, and Daniel James, who rounded off an excellent evening by firing home our fourth, having earlier had another effort disallowed for offside.

Rashford was just behind them in the pecking order, according to the users of our Official App.

MAN OF THE MATCH: THE TOP FOUR

Bruno Fernandes (75 per cent)
Daniel James (6 per cent)
Fred (6 per cent)
Marcus Rashford (5 per cent)

Congratulations Bruno - and thanks to everyone for voting!
