Bruno scores and assists for Portugal

Bruno Fernandes was in fine form on Saturday as Portugal played their first game of the international window.

Up against Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Selecao scored three unanswered goals as they made it three wins from three in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Our no.8 was involved in all of Portugal's goals, scoring twice and assisting once.

Club colleague Diogo Dalot was an unused substitute on the night.

Why Fernandes was our marathon man

Bruno came out on top in our running stats, by some way, and was high up in the Premier League list for 2022/23 too.

The Group J leaders started brightly and were kept at bay for the majority of the first half before Manchester City's Bernardo Silva fired them ahead just before the interval.

Bruno was on-hand to provide a sublime assist, slotting a perfectly weighted pass in behind to Silva, who dinked the ball beyond Ibrahim Sehic.
Fernandes's second goal involvement came deep into the second half, when he got on the scoresheet himself.

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves whipped a teasing ball into the box, where Bruno was waiting, to produce thumping header that doubled Portugal’s tally.

And moments before the final whistle, our no.8 grabbed his brace with an unstoppable volley from the edge of the area.

Both Bruno and Diogo could return to action when Portugal face Iceland on Tuesday (20 June) at 19:45 BST, in a match that could see former Red Cristiano Ronaldo earn his 200th international cap.
