Reds pair in Europa League best XI

Two Manchester United players have made it into UEFA's official Europa League Team of the Season.

The XI is selected by UEFA's Technical Observer Group and, although it will be scant consolation to Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes after the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Wednesday's final in Bilbao, the midfielders' performances throughout the campaign have been recognised.

United had been unbeaten in Europe this term, until Brennan Johnson's effort separated the sides at San Mames, and the result probably helped Spurs have a total of four men in the representative team.

Bruno's message to you

Bruno Fernandes provides a heartfelt thanks to every single United supporter after our Europa League final defeat...

Casemiro scored in both semi-finals against Athletic Club and displayed his experience and quality during the run, including earning a penalty and then providing both assists in the extraordinary comeback against Lyon at Old Trafford in the last eight.

Skipper Fernandes now has more goal involvements than anybody in the competition's history, with his highlight being the superb hat-trick in the 4-1 home win over Real Sociedad.

Our Player of the Year also kept his nerve to net that crucial spot-kick against Lyon, scored against Rangers and hit a brace in the 3-0 away win at Athletic Club.

He recorded five assists as well as we went all the way to the final but the closest he came to helping us recover against Spurs was when his diving header flew wide.
