Rest in peace, Diogo Jota
Manchester United’s deepest condolences are with the loved ones of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre, and everyone connected with Liverpool FC following Thursday’s heartbreaking news.
The forward and his sibling died in a car crash while on holiday in Spain.
Figures from across the footballing world, including past and present United players, have paid tribute to the 28-year-old, who also played for Portugal, FC Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers, among others.
Captain Bruno Fernandes shared an image of himself with the striker on his Instagram page, alongside the following message:
“Friend, colleague, and companion in a thousand battles. It’s hard to understand how it’s possible for someone to leave so soon.
“May you and your brother find the peace you need to look after those who lost you so suddenly and so soon. My condolences to all your family.”
United full-back Diogo Dalot was a team-mate of the Liverpool striker at Euro 2020 and 2024.
“Devastating... speechless... much strength to the family,” he wrote.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who led the line with Diogo at international level, offered these words: “It doesn't make sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you had gotten married.
“To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in Peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you.”
Other Reds, who played against Diogo on several occasions for club and country, also shared their tributes via social media.
