Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes.

What we learned from this Monday's training

It was a case of back to work for a number of Manchester United's senior players this week at Carrington.

A first opportunity to take part in a training session held by Erik ten Hag and his assistants was captured by club media and, as always, our exclusive footage produced some interesting talking points.

The players left the building as a group, walking and talking together, with Anthony Martial in conversation with a muscular-looking Amad as they prepared for the first light jog.

Several of United's international players returned to training on Monday: see the highlights now...

With the aim of getting miles into the legs, Bruno Fernandes was one of those building his stamina after the short break that followed his international exertions with Portugal. A short, sharp running drill clearly looked designed to increase the workload gently ahead of what was to come.

The coaching staff were keen to pass on instructions to a group that contained the likes of Anthony Elanga, Eric Bailly, Facundo Pellistri and Fred, while Donny van de Beek appeared to be fully embracing the short passing exercise with gusto. Coaches watched on with a stopwatch, again emphasising the attention to detail and determination to keep a high tempo.

The fresh faces got a first taste of the drill on show last week, a blur of movement and passing - with left foot and then right foot - and there was plenty of encouragement from the coaches on this front.

Several young players have remained with the first-team group, hoping to catch the manager's eye, while we saw Jadon Sancho, Scott McTominay, Martial and Fred practising their dribbling skills.

The extensive session did not end until relatively late in the day and our video finishes with a shot of Fernandes pulling off a cheeky rabona to find the net.

More hard work will be undertaken as the week continues, before Friday's flight to Thailand to begin Tour 2022.
