Eriksen leads United's bargain FPL picks

Christian Eriksen leads an exciting selection of Manchester United bargain deals in this year’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ahead of the popular game’s new season.

The Danish star was confirmed as the second signing of Erik ten Hag’s tenure on Friday. He joins fellow new recruit Tyrell Malacia, signed from Feyenoord earlier in July, as a key consideration for fans as they build their 15-man squad from a starting budget of £100 million for the 2022/23 campaign.

Below are just a handful of bargain selections available from our squad. Remember: FPL hopefuls can only select a maximum of three players from each club.

Christian Eriksen

Eriksen’s price was revealed to be just £6.5M after confirmation of his free transfer. The intelligent playmaker may prove to be one of the best value-for-money picks in FPL this season, especially when you consider his proven output in the Premier League.

Last season, the 30-year-old provided one goal and four assists during 938 minutes of play after signing for Brentford at the end of January. His incisive passing, set piece prowess and ability to unlock the attacking potential of his team has made him a consistently popular choice in FPL over the years.

He has registered an incredible 53 goals and 77 assists, averaging one goal contribution every 148 minutes played in the Premier League since his debut season with Tottenham Hotspur in 2012/13. It’s mouth-watering to think what Eriksen might achieve with the dynamism and craft of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes around him.
Marcus Rashford

Rashford’s hard work during pre-season is impossible to ignore. The Englishman combined a devastating run with two incredible touches to score in the recent 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory, underlining his focus to excel during the Ten Hag era.

Priced identically to Eriksen at £6.5M, Rashford’s versatility could make him an unmissable pick. Eagle-eyed fans will notice he is classed as a midfielder on the game, but has been utilised on both wings and as a central striker during our wins against Liverpool and Victory on Tour 2022.

With 59 goals and 38 assists registered at an average of one goal contribution every 139 minutes in the game so far, Rashford’s eagerness to impress makes him an exciting inclusion for Reds fans.

He is also currently our most selected player in FPL, with 10.3 per cent of teams picking him for the opener against Brighton & Hove Albion on 7 August.
Jadon Sancho

Sancho’s excellent goal got our pre-season off to a spectacular start in the 4-0 win over Liverpool.

The 22-year-old winger has shown an impressive early understanding of the new manager’s high-pressing system, combining tactical astuteness with directness and the willingness to beat a man that makes him such an explosive talent to watch.

Sancho’s career is defined by him being a box office player who can create something out of nothing. Confident fans may even be tempted by a combination of him, Eriksen and Rashford for their creative output as the trio looks to synergise with Ten Hag’s emphasis on high chance creation and getting attacking numbers forward.

Priced at just £7.5M, Sancho is currently our second most picked player at 7.3 per cent, topped only by Rashford.

That's what club legend Wes Brown told our UTD Podcast when reacting to Friday's big transfer announcement.

Tyrell Malacia

It’s easy to focus on our attacking potential, but the early signs are that Malacia has everything needed to be an absolute dream for FPL players. The newly signed left-back only costs £4.5M and flaunts all the attributes to make himself a low risk, high return star in the game.

Malacia enjoyed a successful second-half debut during the win over Liverpool. Our boss also provided the youngster with another opportunity to impress against Victory; both vital steps as he gets up to speed with his new manager and club.

Malacia’s desire to provide attacking support saw him notch one goal and four assists for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie last season. He also set up a delicious injury time winner for the Netherlands against Wales back in June. His enthusiasm and application has only been matched by the size of his smile since becoming Ten Hag’s first transfer.

With clean sheet potential also to be considered, Malacia is one to watch for any Reds fan eyeing a FPL steal this year.

Every pre-season game - including Crystal Palace (11:10 BST Tuesday 19 July) - will be shown live in our app and on ManUtd.com.
