MUSC Scandinavia hosts 40th anniversary party

Saturday 30 July 2022 08:24

This weekend's Spanish friendly double-header, against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano, will be shown live on the United App, MUTV and ManUtd.com.

The atmosphere ahead of Manchester United's friendly with Atletico Madrid built to a crescendo in Oslo on Friday night (29 July), as hundreds of Reds gathered in the city centre for a night of celebration.

Our Scandinavian supporters' club held a belated party for their 40th anniversary – a year later than planned, due to Covid – at the Gronland Boule Bar.

In attendance were club legends Sammy McIlroy and Bryan Robson, along with fellow former players Russell Beardsmore, Luke Chadwick and Keith Gillespie.

The huge sports bar was a sea of red, as supporters sang and caroused their way through the evening, excited at the thought of seeing their heroes in the flesh at the Ullevaal Stadion on Saturday afternoon.

As the team were arriving at a hotel north of the city, fans enjoyed a discussion with well-known fan and journalist Andy Mitten.

A Q&A with the aforementioned United players followed, with Russell Beardsmore bringing the house down with tales of throwing snowballs at an unimpressed Sir Alex Ferguson.

Luke Chadwick spoke of our former boss's incredible personal touches, and how the immortal Scot had helped him through a difficult part of this own life.

Meanwhile, Robbo gave some insights on Tour 2022, and how Erik ten Hag has started life as manager.
There was musical entertainment from Greater Manchester singer Ryan Jarvis, who led the crowd through some classic United chants like Take Me Home, United Road and Pride of All Europe.

The youngster also played a cracking selection of Manchester tunes, including United fan favourites like Sit Down by James and Sally Cinnamon by the Stone Roses.

With the drinks flowing and fans freely getting up on stage to start their own chants off, the mood was fantastic.

Earlier in the evening, Erik ten Hag's side checked in at the team hotel ahead of tomorrow's game against Atletico Madrid, and were greeted by a gauntlet of fans and well-wishers.

The match against the Madrilenos kicks off at 13:00 BST and will see a sell-out crowd welcomed to the Norwegian national stadium.

United will then face Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on Sunday (16:00 BST), as our new Dutch leader seeks to build his players' fitness ahead of our Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion on 7 August.
