Team news for Atletico clash

Friday 29 July 2022 17:00

This weekend's Spanish friendly double-header, against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano, will be shown live on the United App, MUTV and ManUtd.com.

Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez are in line for their first appearances in a Manchester United shirt, during Saturday's game with Atletico Madrid in Oslo.

Fans at the Ullevaal Stadium in Norway's capital should get to see the two new signings in action as Erik ten Hag's Reds take on Diego Simeone's Spanish side.

Both signings are in a 21-man squad announced for the flight to Scandinavia, along with fellow recruit Tyrell Malacia.

Although some players are absent due to illness or injury, there will be plenty of options open to the boss, particularly in attack, with Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford looking to continue their electric pre-season form.

Scott McTominay is available again, after missing the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, the final game out in Australia, while James Garner is included after coming off the bench in that Perth outing.

Academy graduate Ethan Laird could get another opportunity to impress against top-class opposition, while Facundo Pellistri has plenty of experience of competing against teams from La Liga from his time on loan at Alaves.

With Sunday's friendly against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford a consideration for this selection, it will be interesting to see how United line up against the team that narrowly edged us out of last season's Champions League.

David De Gea is expected to play against his former club, with Tom Heaton and Matej Kovar the other goalkeepers in the party.
