Ole names team for season opener

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named his first line-up of the 2021/22 season.

The Reds welcome Leeds United to Old Trafford to kick off our campaign, looking for a strong start in front of a full crowd, buzzing in anticipation for things getting under way.

As several players are unavailable, such as Dean Henderson, Alex Telles, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford, the boss has had his options reduced but has picked a powerful side he feels will be capable of getting the three vital points.

If the formation is the 4-2-3-1 system preferred for much of last term, Paul Pogba could start on the left with Daniel James on the right.

Fred and Scott McTominay, who scored twice in this fixture last season, start in the midfield engine room.

Mason Greenwood gets the nod as central striker with Anthony Martial recently admitting to us that he is not quite back to 100 per cent after his lengthy lay-off.

Martial is among the substitutes, as is Jadon Sancho, who could make his Premier League bow at some stage.

United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire (c), Shaw; Fred, McTominay; James, Fernandes, Pogba; Greenwood.

Subs: Heaton, Dalot, Williams, Andreas, Mata, Matic, van de Beek, Martial, Sancho.
