Mourinho reveals team news for Palace clash

Friday 23 November 2018 13:38

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed the latest team news ahead of Saturday's return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace.

There have been question marks over a number of Reds stars during the international break but the boss has had a chance to regroup and get his players back at the Aon Training Complex this week in advance of a busy spell in the Premier League and Champions League.

The news certainly looks positive on Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku.

Anthony Martial should be ready to face Crystal Palace.

"It’s been two weeks waiting for news, good or bad, from the boys playing for their national teams," admitted the boss during his pre-match press conference.

"Martial stayed with us, he didn’t go with the [France] national team. He worked really hard. He was in a pre-injury situation, but worked really hard and he’s going to play tomorrow. Fellaini is going to play.

"Rashford came back [from England duty] with a little problem but he is ready. Lukaku is ready, with a little bit of a risk, but ready and Paul [Pogba], we knew in this break he would recover so I don’t think we have players who I can say are out of the game tomorrow.

"We have a huge group to choose from tomorrow."

Hence, there could be a wealth of options open to the manager as he chases three points that could help move the Reds up the Premier League table.

Jesse Lingard returns in a confident mood after scoring in consecutive international games for England, while Victor Lindelof also found the net for Sweden after starting United's last six matches at the heart of the defence.

With so many games on the horizon, it is encouraging that there will be something of a selection headache for Jose as he ponders his best approach for the visit of the Eagles, but Luke Shaw  is, of course, ruled out through suspension.

Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford should both shrug off injuries.

Palace have been boosted by the recovery of former Reds winger Wilfried Zaha, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and James Tomkins, while Mamadou Sakho is fine despite sustaining a back problem whilst away with France.

Imposing centre-forward Christian Benteke, who has a good record against United, is definitely sidelined, along with defender Scott Dann.

"The team news is pretty much positive," manager Roy Hodgson told Palace's official website. "We still have the longer term concerns but Connor Wickham took part in his first training session today. Christian Benteke is making exceptionally good progress, the medical staff are very happy with the way he’s applying himself and how hard he's working to come back as soon as possible. Scott Dann we think will be back with us on Monday.

"Players who played internationally over the past week are okay. Mamadou Sakho is fit, so it's a positive on that front. We have everyone available who I was expecting to be available. Zaha is over the injury and has been training all week, it's the same with James Tomkins. They were both out for a time due to knocks but both have recovered."
