United trio out of Leipzig decider

Monday 07 December 2020 12:57

Manchester United will be without three big names for Tuesday's Champions League Group H decider against RB Leipzig.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed to us that strikers Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial, who were both withdrawn due to injury in the weekend win at West Ham United, are unavailable for the trip to Germany to face last season's semi-finalists.

Fred is, of course, also sidelined after picking up a red card in the 3-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain last week.

The update on Cavani and Martial is a blow with the options in attack now limited ahead of a game where the Reds need to avoid defeat in order to earn a place in the knock-out stages of the tournament.

However, it is not all bad news on the fitness front.

David De Gea will be fit enough to travel after missing the clash against the Hammers, with Dean Henderson deputising to good effect, and Luke Shaw is also available again after recovering from a hamstring problem.

"David is back again," Ole told our reporter Stewart Gardner before making the flight to Leipzig on Tuesday afternoon.

“Luke will be travelling with us. Anthony and Edinson, they had minor things, but they won't make the trip, no."

TEAM NEWS FROM LEIPZIG

The home side will be without highly rated centre-back Dayot Upamecano, who is suspended after receiving a third yellow card of the group stage during the dramatic win at Istanbul Basaksehir last time out. Willi Orban is likely to be the replacement.

Leipzig defenders Lukas Klostermann and Benjamin Henrichs are doubts but confidence is high after a 3-3 draw with Bayern Munich at the weekend. Dani Olmo and Yussuf Poulsen are among those who could come into the XI but there is real competition for places at the moment.
