Ralf's team news for Norwich test
Ralf Rangnick has provided a final update on his Manchester United squad that will be without five players for our Easter weekend meeting with Norwich City at Old Trafford.
The Reds host the Canaries in the Premier League at 15:00 BST on Saturday and on the eve of the fixture, Rangnick met with journalists for his pre-match press conference at Carrington.
Scott McTominay, Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane were all fresh absentees for the German during our most recent outing, at Everton, joining Edinson Cavani on the sidelines. And during that match, Fred picked an issue that saw him substituted in the first half of our 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park.
Speaking in his pre-Norwich media briefing on Friday afternoon, Rangnick revealed that the five aforementioned players will all unfortunately miss the weekend's game in M16.
"Five players will still be missing for tomorrow, and probably some of them also for the upcoming games," our interim manager told reporters.
"You already mentioned Fred and Scott. Rapha Varane, Luke Shaw had his bolts and metal stuff removed from his leg and Edinson Cavani, those are the five that will be missing."
Rangnick went on to provide a update on the operation that Shaw had last week to remove some metal work from his leg, indicating that although the procedure all went well, the recovery time could be longer than previously anticipated.
"Yeah, as it seems, he will be out for at least another four weeks, if not five weeks," Rangnick explained.
"So I think for him it will be difficult to be available for one of the outstanding remaining seven games."
Speaking exclusively to club media, the 63-year-old also gave more detail on the timeline of Varane's return.
“I think probably with Raphael Varane he’s the one who can hopefully can back for at least one of the next two games against Liverpool or Arsenal," he said.
"With the others, I don’t see them coming back within the next couple of days.”
