Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has made two changes to the starting XI that beat Burnley 3-1 last Thursday for the first Reds match of 2022 against Wolves at Old Trafford this teatime.

Captain Harry Maguire and his centre-back partner against the Clarets, Eric Bailly, are both absent. It means a new-look heart of United’s rearguard with Raphael Varane back in the starting line-up after coming on as a sub last Thursday for Bailly.

And there is a first Premier league outing for Phil Jones for almost two years. Jones has been fighting injury and it is his first start in the division, since playing against Burnley on 22 January 2020.

His last appearance for United’s senior side was a goalscoring one against. Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park in the FA Cup third-round 6-1 win, four days later. Since then, it has been a long haul back for Jones.
