Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney.

Revealed: United's top 10 assist-makers this decade

Tuesday 31 December 2019 11:30

Wayne Rooney’s position as the most influential Manchester United player of the decade has been underlined, thanks to research into the club’s statistics throughout the 2010s.

We confirmed on Monday that the legend scored more goals than any other Red in all competitions, with an impressive tally of 145 goals - which is 84 more than second-placed Marcus Rashford.

Furthermore, we can now reveal that Rooney registered more Premier League assists than any other United player across the decade, finishing with 58 to his name by the time of his 2017 departure.

Wayne’s closest competition comes from a former team-mate, Antonio Valencia, who set up many of his goals after forging a sensational partnership following the Ecuadorian’s arrival in 2009.

Four current first-team players are also featured in the top 10, with Ashley Young, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively, as well as Anthony Martial in ninth.

TOP APPEARANCES OF THE DECADE

While Rooney is top of the goals and assists charts for the decade, the Reds legend is only fourth on our list of appearances across all competitions - which is still a great achievement, in fairness.

That table is topped by the great David De Gea, who joined the club as Edwin van der Sar’s replacement during the summer of 2011 and the Spaniard has been almost ever-present since then.

The aforementioned Valencia, who left the club in the summer of 2019, is second on the list and he is closely followed by Chris Smalling, who is currently on loan at AS Roma and could potentially build on his tally in the future.

Check out the list…
