United train before flying back from Spain

Manchester United trained in Spain on Friday afternoon less than 24 hours after the clash with Real Sociedad.

The Reds were put through their paces at Ciudad Deportiva Jose Luis Companon, the training ground of Spanish second-division side Deportivo Alaves, following the 1-0 win against La Real on Thursday evening.

United opted for a similar ploy of training before flying back to Manchester after the recent victory over Omonia Nicosia, earlier in our Europa League campaign, when Erik ten Hag’s side stayed over to work in Cyprus.
The players who didn’t start Thursday’s game were first out in the pouring rain, undergoing some warm-up exercises before ball work was introduced.

That group included young winger Facundo Pellistri, who was on familiar territory, having spent last season on loan with Alaves.

A number of players including Marcus Rashford did shooting practice, assisted by Steve McClaren and other members of the coaching staff, during the latter half of the session.
With the rain stopping and the sun beginning to make an appearance, Thursday’s outfield starters then took to the pitch for a brief recovery workout after doing some initial work in the gym.

The split session concluded soon after, with the players heading straight to airport in Vitoria-Gasteiz, ahead of the flight back to Manchester.

Preparations are set to carry on at Carrington on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s return to Premier League action, away to Aston Villa.

Anthony Martial and Antony have continued to work on their individual programmes at our training base over the last few days, and therefore did not travel to Spain.

Jadon Sancho was absent from the trip through illness.
