Omari Forson celebrates for United

Forson up for Premier League 2 award

Thursday 02 March 2023 10:00

Manchester United Under-21s forward Omari Forson has been named on the Premier League 2’s Player of the Month shortlist for February.

The nomination follows a superb month for Omari, in which he scored four goals in three games.

The young Reds’ first February fixture came on the 11th of the month, when we hosted Everton’s Under-21s at Leigh Sports Village.

Forson wasted no time at all picking up where he left off in our final match of January – when he scored in our 2-1 win over versus Blackburn Rovers – by grabbing an impressive hat-trick against the Toffees.

The attacker’s three goals came after Joe Hugill opened the scoring for United, as the Reds ran out 4-1 victors. The second of these was even named on the 12-strike shortlist for United's Goal of the Month competition for February too.

The following week, the Reds managed to pick up a point away to Crystal Palace, but no goals were scored by either team in that match.

Forson got back among the scorers in United’s final match of February, opening the scoring during the young Reds' 2-2 draw away to Wolves.

Also on the shortlist are Carlos Borges (Man City), Harry Gardiner (Sunderland), Alfie Gilchrist (Chelsea), Omari Kellyman (Aston Villa), Divin Mubama (West Ham), Romaine Mundle (Spurs), and Oliver Tipton (Wolves).

The eight-man shortlist was nominated by the Premier League's Football Development Panel, and that same panel will decide the victor.

The winner will be announced on Friday 10 March.

Good luck, Omari!
