Potential date announced for United v Leeds

Friday 20 January 2023 16:30

Manchester United will host Leeds United in the Premier League on Wednesday 8 February at 20:00 GMT, should neither side require a replay in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round.

The Premier League is giving supporters as much notice as possible by announcing this potential fixture date ahead of the fourth-round weekend.

Leeds travel to either Accrington Stanley or non-league Boreham Wood - that third-round replay was postponed due to the weather this week - at 12:30 GMT on Saturday 28 January.

The Reds host Championship side Reading at Old Trafford in the 20:00 GMT kick-off that evening.

Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick on Leeds' last visit to Old Trafford.

The Premier League has acknowledged the unique circumstances of the teams playing each other twice in the same week, with our top-flight trip to Elland Road scheduled for Sunday 12 February at 14:00 GMT. This is to avoid potential fixture congestion later in the season.

Should either side require an FA Cup fourth-round replay, this will take place during the week commencing 6 February and the Premier League will look at alternative dates to place the United v Leeds fixture.

Our rivals from Yorkshire were initially meant to visit M16 in September, but that meeting was postponed due to Greater Manchester Police supporting forces across the United Kingdom at locations and events of high significance following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

United's other game which was moved in the aftermath of The Queen's death, the trip to Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace, took place on Wednesday.

Bruno Fernandes gave the Reds a first-half lead, but we were pegged back by Michael Olise's stoppage-time free-kick with the scores ending 1-1.
