Ole: How Fernandes could feature against Wolves

Friday 31 January 2020 10:03

Manchester United’s new signing Bruno Fernandes will be part of the matchday squad against Wolves on Saturday, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Whether that involvement sees the Portuguese midfielder, who completed his transfer from Sporting Clube de Portugal on Thursday afternoon, feature from the start, or off the bench, remains to be seen.

“He's fit enough to play and he'll be involved definitely,” Ole told reporters at the Aon Training Complex.

“He'll be in the squad. Let's get the training out of the way today.

"He's had of course a few hectic days now and even with his little daughter's three-year birthday yesterday, so I don't know how much he will be involved, but he's in the squad.”

Nemanja Matic will definitely sit out Saturday’s match, after picking up an automatic one-match suspension.

The Serbian midfielder was shown two yellow cards during Wednesday’s 1-0 Manchester derby victory at the Etihad.

“He played so well, he’s played really well lately so that’s a big blow for us so we’ll have to find a way to replace him,” added Solskjaer.

Another player who won’t feature tomorrow is Marcos Rojo, who has returned to Argentina until the end of the season.

The defender has signed for Estudiantes, who have former United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron as chairman, on a six-month loan.

“Marcos is passionate, he needed to play more," Solskjaer told MUTV. "He’s hoping to get in the Copa America of course and for us to give him that chance, Estudiantes is of course his home.

“Juan Seba Veron will look after him and I’m sure we’ll get Marcos back in better condition than he’s been.”

Marcos Rojo has returned to Argentina on loan.

Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe remain on the sidelines for the Reds, with Ole having previously confirmed the trio will return after the winter break.

Marcus Rashford is also unavailable, after suffering a back injury against Wolves at Old Trafford just over a fortnight ago.

Ole also revealed that Angel Gomes and James Garner will play for United Under-23s, against Norwich City at Carrow Road tonight.

“Angel and Jimmy Garner will be involved, they need games," the boss confirmed to MUTV.

“It’s a good game down at Carrow Road. It’s a long travel, but it’s worth it if they play well.”

WOLVES TEAM NEWS

New Wolves signing Daniel Podence could be in line for his Premier League debut, after signing from Olympiacos earlier in the week. Diogo Jota and Willy Boly, who missed both of our games against Wolves in the Emirates FA Cup, have both returned from injuries, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side’s only injury concern being Ruben Vinagre.

The wing-back picked up a thigh injury in the third-round replay at Old Trafford, and a date has not yet been provided for his return.
