Evans reacts following United bow

Manchester United Women's defender Gemma Evans said it was 'an honour' to have made her debut in our 1-1 draw with Leicester City in the WSL on Sunday.

Marc Skinner's side were forced to share the points at Leigh Sports Village, after Maya Le Tissier's equaliser had cancelled out Aileen Whelan's opener for the Foxes.

In what transpired to be a frustrating afternoon for the Reds, Evans was introduced after 75 minutes, with fellow defender Jayde Riviere making way as the clock ticked down.

The 27-year-old spoke to MUTV following the clash, amplifying just how much it meant to her to wear United's colours for the very first time.

Gemma discusses her first competitive minutes as a Red, in this afternoon's league clash with Leicester City...

“It's been a tough pre-season and the first few games have been really tough,” she began post-match.

“So for me personally it was an honour to obviously wear this badge and make my debut in front of the home fans.

“It was a frustrating game, don't get me wrong, but it was an honour to put on this badge on my chest and get out on the field.”
Having yet to taste defeat in the WSL this season, the Reds have posted a total of five points from our opening three games.

Linking up well with Leah Galton in the final stages down the left flank, the former Rangers defender explained the instructions she was given prior to her introduction.
“We did and [the message] was just to try and get forward a bit more, make Leicester move and try to get the ball in the spaces to make goal scoring opportunities,” added Evans.

“Obviously it is frustrating as it kills the momentum, but that's for the ref to deal with. The game was frustrating but we also could have been a little bit more clinical.”

The Reds come from behind, but are held to a draw by the Foxes on home turf.

With another huge test coming up on Wednesday - as we travel to France to take on PSG in the second leg of our UEFA Women's Champions League Round Two tie - the Wales international admitted our full focus must quickly turn to our European endeavours.

“The game is done now and we will analyse it when we can. For now, the focus is going to PSG and getting the win there.”
