Jess Simpson joins Bristol City on loan

Manchester United defender Jess Simpson has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Bristol City on loan for the second half of the 2024/25 season.

The move sees Simpson return to the Robins, after the United Academy graduate’s season-long loan spell in the South West last term was cruelly curtailed by the injury sustained in her second appearance at the club.

Jess has since worked hard to come back and returned to a first-team matchday squad when she was named among the substitutes for our WSL win over Tottenham in October, a month before making her senior Reds debut in November’s League Cup win away to Everton.
November's trip to Everton was a proud night for Jess, who first joined United aged 11.
The 19-year-old, who also recently made her England Under-23s bow, first signed for the Reds aged 11, and was notably a member of our 2021/22 WSL Academy League and Cup-winning squad as she progressed through the ranks.

She signed her first professional contract with the club in January 2023 and speaking at the time, head coach Marc Skinner called her “an exciting young talent”.
Jess will now hope to build up more minutes and gain further valuable experience while helping Bristol City’s bid to make an immediate return to the top tier.

The Robins were relegated from the WSL last season, but Steve Kirby’s side currently occupy second position in a highly competitive Women’s Championship table, behind leaders Birmingham City only on goal difference.

Everyone at United would like to wish Jess a very successful loan spell back in Bristol.
