United Women discover Champions League opponents

Friday 15 September 2023 12:30

Manchester United Women's Champions League opponents have been confirmed, following Friday's second-round draw in Switzerland.

The Reds are participating in the tournament for the very first time, after finishing as runners-up in last season's Barclays Women's Super League.

Marc Skinner's side must first progress through one of 12 two-legged knockout ties to qualify for the next stage of the competition, with the victorious sides joining reigning champions Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Lyon in the groups.

And United will have to get past a two-time former finalist, in Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG, who ended Lyon's run of 14 consecutive Ligue 1 Feminine titles in 2021, have been one of the continent's stronger sides for around a decade now.

The club from France's capital made it to the showpiece event in this competition in both 2015 and 2017, losing to Frankfurt and Lyon respectively.

Their squad includes former Reds midfielder Jackie Groenen, as well as Aissatou Tounkara, who left United during the summer.

United will host the first leg of the tie on 10/11 October, with the return in France being played on 18/19 October.
