Parris: I'm all about performing for United

Manchester United forward Nikita Parris has been in scintillating form this term, currently leading the way with goals scored for the club.

Our no.22 has already entered double figures across all competitions, with eight goals and two assists in the Women’s Super League alone.

It is the kind of form that meant her exclusion from the latest England squad was a surprise, but for Parris, her focus is solely on performing for the Reds.

“I am all about performing for Manchester United at this point,” she told club media, in a recent matchday programme interview.

Nikita Parris is full of striking insight as she watches back the five goals she scored for United in January...

“That is my bread and butter week in, week out. Having to perform and stay in the team here.

“We have an array of talent here and a competitive forward line and that helps me personally because it helps make sure I am not resting on my laurels and getting complacent when there are people vying for positions that are of high quality also.”
This term is only Parris’s second with the club, but she is undoubtedly experiencing her best season as a Red, having taken plenty of learning from her debut campaign in 2022/23.

“For me, last year was all about understanding the team - understanding my team-mates and them getting used to how I play,” Keets told us.

“That was important. It always takes time to blend into a group and figure out your role and how you fit into the team.

“I think this year everything has just clicked together - normally it takes longer but for me this year has really clicked and how my team-mates know what to expect from me, where I will be and vice versa.”

With spells on both the wing and through the middle, Parris has explained which position she prefers and why, saying: "I prefer to play centre-forward. I always wanted to be a centre-forward but it’s just that my attributes mean playing out wide is somewhere I can play as well.

“If you look at all the teams I’ve played for, I’ve started out wide, followed the same format of then moving positions and moving into the middle.

“Last year, I played more wide whereas this year I have mixed it up between the two. But ultimately wherever I am playing, I will do my best to help the team win. I always just want to do my best.”

We take a look at the Wales midfielder's road to her recent milestone game for United.

United are continuing to push for a place in the top three, while also competing for the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, but our top scorer is eyeing getting the small things right to help the team as we reach the latter stages of the season.

“[I want to] make sure that I have the energy to keep the team in the game and keep pressing, that is what is important.

“The quality on the ball and making sure I create chances for my team-mates - for me, they are the little things that can make the difference.”
