Toone hits half-century of United goals

Sunday 31 March 2024 14:23

Manchester United Women midfielder Ella Toone reached a landmark 50 goals for the Reds on Sunday, as she netted a brace in our 4-1 win against Everton in the WSL.

Katja Snoeijs had put the Toffees ahead in the first half but, after Millie Turner drew Marc Skinner's side level in the 57th minute, Toone turned the game on its head.

The England international slotted the ball home inside the box to give the Reds the advantage and then finished Lisa Naalsund's cut-back with ease to make it 3-1. Leah Galton netted on her return from injury to make it 4-1 but this is an afternoon that will live long in the memory of our no.7.

Ella's first goal on the afternoon made it 50 for her in a United shirt and, thanks to her prolific second, she now has 51 for the club.

Toone joined United in 2018 and has since established herself as a key pillar in Skinner's team and also for England's Lionesses.

The 24-year-old became the first player to reach a century of appearances for United Women in April 2022.

Ella celebrated her 150th match for the Reds in January and continues to achieve impressive personal milestones for the club she supported as a child.

Our no.7 netted her first United goal back in 2018, in the Championship, when she came off the bench to net against Aston Villa.

Since then, Ella has gone on to become United Women's all-time top goalscorer and is showing no signs of slowing down.
