Emma Watson joins Everton for remainder of season

Manchester United midfielder Emma Watson has signed on loan with fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side Everton for the remainder of the season.

The Scotland youngster made her United debut against the Toffees back in November, having completed her comeback from a long-term injury, suffered on international duty shortly after joining the Reds from Rangers in August 2023.

Watson has since gone on to make her WSL bow and score her first goal for the club – in last month’s 5-3 victory over Newcastle in the League Cup – and will now look to build on those milestone moments as she bids to gain further top-flight experience on Merseyside.
Emma joins the team she made her United debut against earlier this season.
In a recent chat with club media, the 18-year-old expressed how much she has relished those opportunities and spoke about coming up against her new team, saying: “Everton are obviously a good side, and I think that challenge for myself, I’ve not really played against WSL teams, so I wasn’t really sure how it was going to go but we got the win and I thought I played well. It was a great experience.”

The 2023 PFA Scotland Women’s Young Player of the Year recently returned to the international fold too, taking her tally to eight senior caps across fixtures in October, November and December.
Emma is now set to join up with Brian Sorensen’s Everton squad for the second half of the season and will be hoping to add further invaluable experience at the top level to her CV, before returning to Manchester in the summer.

The Toffees currently occupy ninth position in the 12-team WSL table and, like the Reds, resume their campaign in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round this weekend, with a tie at home to fellow top-flight outfit Tottenham.

Everyone at United would like to wish Emma the very best of luck for her loan spell on Merseyside.
