Toone voted Women's Player of the Month
Ella Toone has been chosen by our supporters as Manchester United Women’s Player of the Month for May.
That was enough to see off competition from runner-up Lucia Garcia (25%) and third-placed Lisa Naalsund (8%) to retain the award, having finished top in April too.
Ella played a starring role in May’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup final, in which the Reds defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at Wembley Stadium, to win the trophy for the first time in our history.
The England international superbly opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time, with an unstoppable long-range effort that Marc Skinner’s side ultimately never looked back from.
That effort recently won our Women’s Goal of the Season award and was likely at the forefront of the minds of fans who opted for Ella from our shortlist of three nominees.
Tooney, who started all three of our matches in the campaign-concluding month, was presented with her best-goal prize, plus the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year (shared with Maya Le Tissier) accolades before the final-day outing against Chelsea at Old Trafford.
The attacking midfielder racked up nine goals and nine assists for her club this season, and completes a quartet of POTM prizes in 2023/24 with her latest success, following previous triumphs in December, January and April.
