Team news: United Women v Arsenal (A)

Thursday 08 January 2026 14:47

Marc Skinner says Manchester United Women's Gabby George and Ella Toone are set for a mutiple-week spell on the sidelines with injury.

Toone was withdrawn from our final game before the winter break, the League Cup win over Spurs, with a hamstring issue, but it's a hip problem that is due to keep the midfielder out of this weekend's clash against Arsenal and for some time beyond.

Ella is the team's joint-leader for direct goal contributions this term (her three goals and eight assists means she's tied with Melvine Malard on 11), but the England international has already begun her rehab and is itching to get back on the pitch.

She is currently out of action alongside George, who is dealing with a calf injury. Speaking to club media's Zarah Connolly on Thursday morning, the boss also revealed that Leah Galton will miss the trip south.

Marc Skinner shares the latest United Women team news in his pre-Arsenal MUTV interview, available in full on Friday...

“There’ll be a couple of players that will be out,” began Skinner, delivering an update on our team news in his MUTV chat. “So, Leah Galton has an ongoing back issue which means she’ll miss this game.

“Tooney has a bone stress response in her hip, so she will miss a few weeks. We wish her all the best, she’s already started her rehab. You can imagine [that], Tooney hates missing football. Now, we just make sure she gets right and comes back in stronger.

“Gabby has a calf issue, which will keep her out for a couple of weeks as well.

“Apart from that, everybody else is fit and fighting and ready to go. Hanna [Lundkvist] and Lea [Schuller] should be ready to go into the squad this weekend.”

It's a positive bulletin on new signings Lundkvist and Schuller, who officially completed their transfers to United on 1 January, they have since been in training at Carrington and could make their debuts at the Emirates Stadium.

The boss spoke more about Swedish full-back Lundkvist and German forward Schuller elsewhere in the pre-match interview with club media, which you can watch in full on ManUtd.com and in the United App from tomorrow (Friday).

That's before Saturday's 12:30 GMT kick-off away to Arsenal in the Barclays Women's Super League, which marks our return from the division's mid-season break.
