Women face wait on two defenders
Manchester United Women have two fitness doubts in defence, before Saturday’s WSL meeting with Everton (12:00 GMT kick-off).
Dominique Janssen was replaced by Gabby George at half-time, during Wednesday’s disappointing goalless draw at West Ham.
The Netherlands international will be looked at before the Toffees visit the Progress With Unity Stadium, in a game we’ll be streaming live, for free, on our YouTube channels.
Jayde Riviere, meanwhile, played in the League Cup final defeat to Chelsea but didn’t make the trip down south in midweek.
She has come through the pre-match checks and could be in contention to feature, subject to Friday’s training session.
Skinner previews Everton visit
Marc Skinner is asked about team news, Terland’s role, boosting our attacking output and more…
“Dom came off with a little bit of a hamstring thing,” Marc Skinner said, in his pre-match press conference.
“We’re assessing her this [Friday] morning. We’ve let them in later today based on coming back late after the game against West Ham.
“Jayde is out on the field today, I believe, so hopefully if it’s not Everton it will be Bayern [on Wednesday]. The tests were fine today.
“Apart from that, everyone is reporting a little bit tired but ready to play.”
Leah Galton and Ella Toone are still out of action with back and hip injuries respectively, while Hinata Miyazawa remains unavailable as she is preparing for Saturday’s Asian Cup final with Japan, against Australia (09:00 GMT).
Anna Sandberg is also sidelined, having been injured in the UEFA Women’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid last month.
The Reds are aiming to end a run of three winless fixtures, as we seek a first goal since the international break after drawing blanks against Chelsea and West Ham. Elisabeth Terland featured as a no.10 for those encounters and Skinner says that may not just be a temporary arrangement.
“I think more importantly for us it’s looking at getting those forward players on the pitch,” he said. “Teri has the quality in pressing and intelligence to press from midfield so she naturally fits in that 10, too.
“It’s not something we’ll just use in these moments, especially given the quality of player Teri is - arriving late and finishing from the edge of the area, it’s a real threat.
“At the right times I think it will be used, but I also see her as a nine as well.”
