United Women hit four in first friendly
Manchester United Women won the first pre-season friendly of the 2020/21 season, with Glasgow City providing the opposition.
Casey Stoney's side ran out 4-0 victors at Leigh Sports Village after Ella Toone opened the scoring in only the fourth minute.
Leah Galton and Kirsty Hanson forced saves out of Scotland international goalkeeper Lee Alexander as the visitors remained in contention up to the half-time interval, in a game in which new signings Ona Batlle and Ivana Fuso appeared.
After Stoney made seven changes at the break, one of the substitutes, Jess Sigsworth, had a header cleared off the line within the first five minutes of the restart.
Our no.9 also headed against the bar before she finally doubled the lead with 17 minutes remaining.
Sigsworth struck again seven minutes later, and Hanson added number four with a couple of minutes remaining to give the Reds a convincing victory over the SWPL 1 side, who have claimed each of the last 13 Scottish top-flight titles to be awarded.
Only a good save by Alexander denied Sigsworth her hat-trick in stoppage time as it proved a great work-out for both sides, with City currently preparing for the delayed UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-finals, where they'll play Wolfsburg.
