Marmoush ruled out of derby

Manchester City have confirmed that Omar Marmoush is set to miss the upcoming derby with United.

The forward suffered a knee injury in the early stages of Egypt’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match with Burkina Faso on Tuesday evening.

City have said that Marmoush, who has scored eight times in 28 appearances since joining in January, will return to Manchester for further assessment, although initial scans ‘indicate he will not be available on Sunday’.

Marmoush has featured in all three of City’s Premier League fixtures so far, coming on as a substitute in the 4-0 victory at Wolves and starting the defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Omar Marmoush has featured in all of City's league games, including the loss to Spurs.

Pep Guardiola will, therefore, need to make at least one change in attack, although he will also have to factor in Rayan Cherki’s injury, with the summer signing from Lyon now sidelined for two months.

Savinho is yet to feature this term after picking up an injury in pre-season, while Phil Foden was deemed not fully fit to play at Brighton, prior to the international break.

Guardiola also has concerns in defence, as Josko Gvardiol, Rico Lewis and John Stones are all doubts and Abdukodir Khusanov withdrew from Uzbekistan duty with a calf issue.

Manuel Akanji and Ederson left City earlier this month, while Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma arrived, meaning the Blues could have several derby debutants this weekend.

One man we are more familiar with is Erling Haaland and he had a productive time with Norway, scoring five times against Moldova to bring his tally for the Scandinavians to 48 goals in just 45 caps.

Guardiola will hold his pre-match press conference on Friday, and our boss Ruben Amorim will also speak to the media later this week.

The Reds' head coach could give updates on Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount, who picked up knocks against Burnley, while Diogo Dalot withdrew from the Portugal squad due to muscle discomfort.
