Manchester United and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton has received a vaccine to help protect him against COVID-19.

The Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation tweeted a photo of the 83-year-old receiving the jab yesterday (Monday).

At the time of writing, their social media post has been liked over 12,000 times, as well-wishers from all over the globe reacted with joy at seeing Sir Bobby looking so well.

Last year it was confirmed that the World Cup winner had been diagnosed with dementia, when his wife Norma released the news in the hope it would help raise awareness of the disease.

Sir Bobby’s brother, Jack, and his former United and England team-mate Nobby Stiles both passed away with the illness during 2020.
But fans have been encouraged after seeing Sir Bobby smiling and receiving his COVID jab. Everyone at Manchester United joins them in wishing him and his family well at this difficult time.

Charlton won three league titles with the club, and scored two goals to help us beat Benfica 4-1 in the 1968 European Cup final, as we became the first English club in history to lift the famous trophy.

Sir Bobby is also the only surviving player from the 1958 Munich Air Disaster, which saw eight United footballers tragically lose their lives.
