Becks reacts to Rashford matching his record

Manchester United legend David Beckham has reacted in good humour to Marcus Rashford matching his goals tally for the club.

During his immensely popular career as a Red, the Class of ’92 graduate scored 85 times and that impressive tally for a winger placed him in 24th position on the club’s illustrious all-time goals list.

Beckham left the club in the summer of 2003, and sits above former team-mate Eric Cantona and below the great Lou Macari in our chart, but things are clearly about to change above him.
Marcus has been busy ascending the ranks in recent seasons and, having overtaken King Eric earlier this month, the homegrown hero climbed another step up the famous ladder at the weekend.

Rashford’s goal in the 3-1 Premier League victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Sunday drew him level with Beckham on 85 and it is now surely only a matter of time before Marcus moves clear.

Our official Instagram account acknowledged the shift in rankings on Monday and, in the comments section, a certain sporting icon wrote this message to our no.10.

“Not sure we will be on the same number for long @MarcusRashford,” joked Beckham. “Didn't realise I'd scored that many!”

Rashford has previously said he doesn’t take too much notice of such things, but he made an exception at the weekend after matching one of his United heroes.

“Joined some great company tonight, matching Becks record,” he tweeted. “Happy Sunday everyone.”

COVER STARS

This is not the first time Beckham has congratulated Rashford, by the way.

Only last week, the Old Trafford icon sent his best wishes after Marcus was placed on the cover of Time magazine and recognised as one of their “100 emerging leaders who are shaping the future”.

An inclusion on the ‘2021 TIME100 Next’ list is a unique honour for our homegrown hero, who is recognised for his unprecedented campaign to ensure free school meals are provided to children in the UK.
