United U21s' fixture at Barnsley confirmed

Thursday 11 September 2025 16:00

Manchester United's Vertu EFL Trophy group-stage game at Barnsley will be played on Tuesday 21 October (19:00 BST) at Oakwell Stadium.

This fixture announcement follows confirmation that our National League Cup tie at Rochdale, originally scheduled for the same date, will now be played the following week, on 28 October.

United's Under-21s and League One side Barnsley are facing off for a second successive season in the competition, and Reds fans will hope Travis Binnion’s young side can replicate the drama on show in South Yorkshire in 2024/25.

Highlights | See how the young Reds came from behind to beat Barnsley in the EFL Trophy...

An extraordinary second-half goal blitz saw United recover from two goals behind to win at Oakwell, with Ethan Ennis opening the scoring before a Jack Fletcher double.

Despite that excellent result, achieved through a healthy balance of resilience and quality under pressure, United did not progress from the group stages, during which we drew with Doncaster Rovers and were beaten at Huddersfield Town.

United will be hoping to progress further this year. Our campaign begins with a trip to Lincoln City (League One) on 30 September, followed by the game at Barnsley. The date for our match with Notts County (League Two) is yet to be confirmed.

The young Reds are traditionally backed by a sizeable travelling support for these fixtures, and staff and players will greatly appreciate the noise of our fans on the road once again.
