Man United Women 2019/20 fixtures release.

United Women's WSL fixtures for 2019/20

Wednesday 10 July 2019 10:00

Manchester United Women’s provisional fixture list has been announced for the 2019/20 Women’s Super League (WSL) campaign.

With the opening round of fixtures released last week, the Reds already knew we would begin our first season in the top flight with a trip to local rivals Manchester City. It has since been confirmed that the derby will take place at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 7 September, with kick off at 15:00 BST, and will be screened live on BT Sport in the UK.

Wednesday’s announcement has now revealed who we will face in our first WSL home game.

Casey Stoney’s side will welcome last season's WSL champions Arsenal to Leigh Sports Village - which is once again our home for the 2019/20 season - on 16 September, before hosting rivals Liverpool two weeks later in our third fixture of the campaign.

The Reds won the FA Women's Championship title in our inaugural season in 2018/19.

As for the run-in, United will travel to Bristol City on the penultimate weekend, before we finish by hosting Birmingham City on 16 May 2020.

The excitement is growing ahead of our maiden campaign in the WSL, after the Reds stormed to the Championship title in 2018/19 - our inaugural campaign.

During the close season, United have brought in Jane Ross while Abbie McManus, Hayley Ladd and World Cup star Jackie Groenen have signed pre-contract agreements to join the Reds. It was the Dutch midfielder who grabbed the decisive goal in the Netherlands’ semi-final victory against Sweden, and ensured they progressed to the final, which they lost 2-0 against the USA.

Groenen, McManus and Ross were three of United's six representatives at this summer’s World Cup, as too were England’s Alex Greenwood and Scotland’s Lizzie Arnot and Kirsty Smith.

They could all be in action when we take on City in our first game of the season in just under two months' time, along with the likes of Steph Houghton, Jill Scott and Ellen White, who impressed for Phil Neville’s Lionesses in France.
