Galton and Skinner win December WSL awards
Manchester United Women’s midfielder Leah Galton and head coach Marc Skinner have been voted as the Barclays WSL Player and Manager of the Month for December.
The Reds only had two league matches in the final month of 2022, but Skinner’s side earned four points across both fixtures, which included an away trip to Manchester City.
United began December with the highly anticipated Old Trafford clash with Aston Villa. The Reds eclipsed the visitors 5-0 in front of a team-record home crowd, laying down yet another marker to our rivals in what is turning our to be a very impressive season for the Reds.
Galton scored the second goal in that superb victory, as the Reds continued our rich vein of form.

Skinner’s side then made the short trip to the Etihad, to take on title rivals City. The Reds began the match with great pace, and Galton hammered home the opener after exchanging quick passes with Ella Toone.
The hosts came back in the second half and levelled through Laura Coombs, but the Reds continued to threaten and could have grabbed a late winner. The sides settled for a point, leaving Skinner’s side in third place in the WSL table.
Two goals in two games for Galton, and four points against two very good sides earned Galton and Skinner the respective awards for December, with Marc beating off competition from the likes of Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall and Chelsea’s Emma Hayes, while Galton edged nominees including United team-mate Ona Batlle and goalkeeper Emily Ramsey (on loan at Everton from the Reds).
