Skinner: Bench impact is vital
Manchester United Women boss Marc Skinner has recognised the crucial role substitutes have played in the opening weeks of the new season.
In all of our first three fixtures of our unbeaten start to the season, players have come off the bench to chip in with crucial goals, as highlighted by Skinner in his preview with MUTV ahead of this weekend's game against Leicester City.
Whilst recognising that coming back from behind is not part of the plan, Skinner acknowledged that alterations from the bench will always have the ability to impact a game.
In an interview with club media, he said: "Obviously we don't want to concede, but we've shown the resilience to do that [come from behind]. But the reality is when you bring these players on from the bench now, they're coming to change the game.
"They're not just there to be a number against the opponent."
Skinner's Q&A: Leicester (H)
Skinner says there is plenty of positivity in the United Women camp, as we prepare to host Leicester...
The contribution from his substitutes is exactly what the Reds manager has been looking for, viewing his squad as a whole rather than just the 11 players that take to the pitch from the start.
Skinner continued: "We've got individual decision makers that can turn games in a moment, and that's all I've ever wanted for this team. Our fans deserve that."
United Women are looking to continue our unbeaten run tomorrow (October 15, 12:00 BST), when we welcome current WSL league-toppers Leicester City to Leigh Sports Village.
That game will be available to watch on MUTV - click here to subscribe - with coverage starting 30 minutes before kick-off. Updates will also be available on ManUtd.com and in the United app.
