Skinner: Ole emailed back right away

Wednesday 18 August 2021 10:35

New Manchester United Women’s head coach Marc Skinner has revealed how first-team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his staff have made him feel so welcome at the club.

Skinner was appointed last month, replacing Casey Stoney in the hotseat.

The work of the former Birmingham City and Orlando Pride manager is already under way, with the Reds drawing with Liverpool and beating Aston Villa in friendlies, before embarking on a training camp in Scotland where we’ll face Rangers on Thursday.

Arriving into a new environment isn’t always easy, but Skinner has been impressed at how amenable Solskjaer and the first-team coaches have been at the shared Carrington training complex.

And he added that Ole has already pencilled in a meeting for the two to sit down and share their thoughts.

United Women recorded a first victory under Marc Skinner in pre-season on Saturday. Here are the decisive goals...

“Do you know what’s really interesting? Obviously Ole and the team started the other day,” Skinner said from the team camp.

“I emailed him, I think it was 5 o’clock on Friday, and literally I think within 20 minutes he emailed back and he said: “I look forward to meeting you, welcome to the club. I’ll wander across and grab a coffee with you at some point and we can integrate ideas.”

“I’ve met all of the staff because obviously we’re based at the training ground. I’ve met all of the staff, they’ve been nothing but friendly and want to help and support in any way they can.

“This is part of the reason I came to Manchester United: I knew it had a heritage of supporting its own and growing from within and looking after each other.

“That was so important for me and that’s part of the support I was talking about. [Football Director] John Murtough is a key link to that and he’s been nothing but supportive.”
