Skinner: We'll fix little details from Villa defeat
Marc Skinner said that Manchester United will work to fix "little details" after being handed a first Women's Super League defeat of the season by Aston Villa on Saturday.
Villa managed to claim victory through a single first half goal that came from a corner, while working hard out of possession to continually frustrate a United side that had been unbeaten through seven domestic games so far in 2025/26.
Skinner suggested that the standard of performance fell just below what United fans have been used to seeing over the past few months.
"It's something we'll look at," he said.
Janssen: Loss will make us better
"Sometimes you need to fall to stand back up," says Dominique Janssen after United Women's defeat to Aston Villa...
"What I think about this team is they're honest [with themselves]. They'll work, and we'll work to fix things we didn't do so well today.
"Little things, like Villa played direct over our press, we weren't aggressive enough in the duels, which allowed them to get territory.
"It's little details that we just need to get back into our habit of."
LESSONS TO TAKE FORWARD
Skinner said United have no choice but to take the "medicine" that comes with defeat, having played so well – both domestically and in Europe – throughout the campaign up to this point.
"When you have when you have success for a period of time and then you don't play well and you get your medicine, you have to take it," the boss explained, noting that there will be lessons United can still take forward from this setback into the next run of games.
"You can't take the plaudits and then not take the consequence of the loss. So, checks and balances. Today, we weren't good enough, but I think there's fixable things within that.
Skinner looking forward to United's reaction
Marc Skinner says his team will own the defeat to Aston Villa and look to put things right against PSG on Wednesday...
"The game last year [0-0 against Aston Villa at home] was a totally different because I thought we were quite passive [then]. I don't think it were passive today.
"Villa came to frustrate and they got a goal from a set-piece, which is a second phase, and we don't defend it properly. So that happens at times. More importantly, I think we could have a lot more quality in the final third, and that's something we need to look at as a team."
PSG IN FOUR DAYS
For Skinner, the "beauty" of facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday – our first ever European night at Old Trafford – so soon is the opportunity to move past the setback and quickly refocus on the next challenge.
"We just weren't good enough today. That happens very rarely for us, and the beauty of having the PSG game so closely is that we can turn it round and get focused for that," he concluded.
