Skinner: We can create our own history

Manchester United Women manager says he wants his players to "stand on the shoulders of giants" in Sunday's Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

The WSL match between United and Manchester City will be played at the Theatre of Dreams for the first time this weekend, with ticket sales records smashed ahead of Sunday.

The Reds go into the game on the back of two impressive performances, which has seen us score 12 goals.

Ahead of Sunday's historic occasion, Skinner briefed the media in his press conference. You can read the best of Marc's responses below...

On the pressure of the game this weekend…

"I think there is pressure on both managers this weekend. We have a home crowd but the reality is that we put pressure on ourselves. We want to win every game.

"There is a pressure cauldron for everyone and I think it’s a case of who deals with it better on the day will come away with the win."

On players experiencing their first Manchester derby...

"The players we signed this year are used to big occasions. They thrive in those environments, they grow. We are adding players now that grow in big environments, they grow and create chances. I am looking forward to seeing [them play] on Sunday.

"I think our team are at a point where they want to attack teams and play the aggressive way that is Manchester United. That’s what I am asking for.

"I would hope we have the players who have the mentality to want to go and win the game."

On playing at Old Trafford…

"When we first played at Old Trafford it felt a little bit alien but now it doesn’t feel like that. I think a lot of players actually support Manchester United so they have been there. Now we rock up and it’s more business like.

"When we get to Old Trafford it’s about utilising the history of our club, all the massive moments that have happened on that pitch but it’s also about making our own moments. Our team within this club doesn’t have to just follow in the greats, it can produce it’s own narrative.

"We need to stand on the shoulders of those giants who have come before but also add our own stamp."
