Skinner: We’re adapting and evolving all the time
Marc Skinner is looking forward to using his squad depth in our League Cup game with Everton on Wednesday evening.
The Reds make the short journey to Walton Hall Park in the second of our group fixtures, with Emma Watson and Jess Simpson both in contention to make their debuts after suffering ACL injuries last season.
Ahead of the Everton clash, Skinner spoke to the press on Tuesday morning about player rotation and our attacking edge, as well as providing an update on Ella Toone’s injury.

I’M EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO
“I imagine Emma [Watson] playing some part in this game, whether that be from the start or coming into the game. Emma's been waiting a while. Her and Jess [Simpson] - they've been playing games behind the scenes. Obviously been training every day. It's around time that we get to see them. They're probably ready now. I've said this many times because I'm really excited to see what they can do. So it should be good and hopefully we'll see them in this game tomorrow.”
WE HAVE TO KEEP THAT ATTACKING EDGE
“We’re adapting and evolving all the time. We're trying to find new ways of putting little combinations together. It's much more like us. From our perspective, we have to be that team in possession and I think against Everton and the way they play, and against Chelsea [on Sunday], it's going to be a little bit different. We have to keep that attacking edge. That's what our fans love and that's what we have to continue to do. So it's something we spoke about. It's something we're going to make sure that we fix. And you know, it's just a non-negotiable at Man United.”
POSITIVES FROM SUNDAY'S WIN
“[Against Leicester City] we looked at the balance in midfield and we are continuously looking at that. I thought Simi [Awujo], considering it was her first start in terms of in the league, was fantastic. Dom [Janssen] offers a lot of experience in there and I think a lot of Dom's work you don't see because it's off the ball and it's a lot of covering space and covering danger. Obviously Grace [Clinton] has fantastic ability to create but I thought, the front three were really aggressive. Celin [Bizet] and Geyse for the goal for Elisabeth [Terland]. Then Celin creating those really aggressive runs. I felt that they were very, very good and I think we got the balance right. I think we need to convert more of those chances. We looked at a little bit of position, a little bit of crossing and we should have converted more.”

IT'S ABOUT BALANCING THE WEEK
“We won't be disrespectful at all to Everton - they've just won the last game, albeit by that goal [a penalty for a foul outside of the penalty area] but the reality is, when we played against them early in the season, it was difficult at Walton Hall Park. We expect a tough game. It is a game obviously we want to try and win because if we do win that, I think it almost secures us to go through. We're going to try and do our best to win it, but it's also about balancing the week.”
WE WILL KEEP ASSESSING ELLA
“Ella [Toone] picked up an injury in training the day before the Leicester game. She had a calf injury in part of the session. It's definite that she'll miss these two games. She'll miss the international window where we'll keep assessing her time and then, we'll see whether she's back for the block of three games after that.”
