Sabitzer feels games have helped him settle

Wednesday 08 March 2023 11:00

Marcel Sabitzer believes the hectic fixture list has helped him to settle quickly at Manchester United.

The packed schedule, and Casemiro's domestic suspension for the red card he received against Crystal Palace, have ensured the Austria international has had to hit the ground running at his new club.

In an exclusive interview with United Review, our official matchday programme, the midfielder explained how he has adapted to his surroundings and is fit and fresh for the challenges that lie ahead, at home and in Europe.

United v Real Betis: Wednesday's events

Marcus Rashford will join Erik ten Hag at today's pre-match press conference.

"I think so," he replied, when asked if the laser focus on game after game has, in some respects, helped his cause. "Every footballer loves the games.

"That’s good we have a lot of games. We are fit, we are ready and enjoying the moment. One hundred per cent [I can play three games a week]. I saw the comment Bruno [Fernandes] did and it was the same for me. I want to play every day, if possible, I am ready for every game."

Real Betis are certain to provide tough opposition in the Europa League on Thursday night, as our reward for knocking out another Spanish side in Barcelona. Manuel Pellegrini's men are much-respected opponents and Sabitzer feels it was inevitable the test would be a difficult one at this stage of the competition.

"I think, in the knockout stages, there are no easy games, no easy opponents," he stated. "We have to be ready for Real Betis as well. They are a good team with quality players but I think, when we’re on the pitch, we’ll show our qualities and we will win these games."

When it was suggested the Europa League could be another springboard to future success, and if we could go all the way to Budapest, the 28-year-old was clear in his message.

"It’s not about getting to the final," he insisted. "We want to win the competition, you know, so it’s a way to go. We are focused on it and we will do everything to get to the final and bring this trophy to Manchester United."

The thirst for silverware was also evident when he thanked the supporters for their warm reception at the club, and positive reaction to his loan move.

"I just [want to] say a big thank you for welcoming me very well," he added. "It was easy for me to come here and feel the support from the first moment on. I said I want to bring trophies to Man United, for the fans, for the club and for us, as a team. That is our aim and we will give our all for that."
