Rashford achieves a personal best
Marcus Rashford's strike to open the scoring against Leicester City ensured he has already topped his highest tally of goals for Manchester United in a single season.
Rashford, who started the game against the Foxes as the spearhead of United's attack, scored in the 25th minute after breaking away from the defence to receive a Bruno Fernandes pass. The in-form no.10 controlled the ball perfectly before firing a shot into the far corner, past Foxes goalkeeper Danny Ward.
And in the second half, Rashford completed his brace by collecting a long pass to get one-on-one with Ward and calmly strike the ball past the Welshman. The England international was substituted in the 69th minute, with Anthony Elanga coming on in his place.
Marcus has now scored 24 times in the current campaign, two more than he managed in the entirety of his previous best season for goals, 2019/20. The Academy graduate matched that number, 22, when he equalised against Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Thursday night, in United’s dramatic 2-2 draw in the Europa League.
Rashford's goal tally for 2022/23 so far comprises 14 in the Premier League, four in the Europa League, five in the Carabao Cup and one in the FA Cup.
He has also provided eight assists across all competitions, only four away from his best figure for a season, also 2019/20, when he registered a total of 12.
