Why Rashford has moved into United's top 20
Marcus Rashford's goal on Thursday - his fifth in his last five appearances against Liverpool - made him the 20th player to score 50 times at Old Trafford for Manchester United.
The England international, who was also close to making it 51 in the dying seconds after switching to the left flank, will be disappointed his efforts proved in vain as Liverpool ran out 4-2 victors in the rearranged fixture.
However, his landmark strike does warrant further attention and some context to the achievement.
Marcus’s 50th Old Trafford goal
Marcus Rashford’s superb finish gave United a flicker of second-half hope…
Rashford joins a list that includes some of the most famous names in the club's history, headed by the incomparable Sir Bobby Charlton, who smashed an incredible 138 goals for the club at Old Trafford between 1956 and 1973.
Only two other Reds have reached triple figures - the club's record goalscorer, Wayne Rooney, and fellow master marksman Denis Law, who are joint-second on 135.
Current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored 75 times at home for United during his playing days, enough to share 12th spot in the Old Trafford record books with Brian McClair.
Stan Pearson - a local lad, like Marcus - had a career interrupted by World War II but still bagged 52 goals at the ground so he is the first player our present no.10 can overtake when it comes to climbing the table.
Rashford will have one last opportunity at home in 2020/21 when United entertain Fulham on Tuesday evening, in front of up to 10,000 fans, in our penultimate fixture of the Premier League campaign.
