Will Rashford be fit for United's FA Cup tie?

Although the player who came on in his place, Paul Pogba, scored just two minutes after entering the fray at San Siro, there was still understandable concern surrounding Rashford with another huge knockout away game on the horizon - Sunday's Emirates FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester City.

When asked in his post-match interview for club media whether Rashford had picked up an injury, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replied: 

“Marcus was feeling something. We didn’t want to take any risks. I think he’ll be alright.”

He later added in his post-match press conference, conducted via Zoom: “With Marcus yeah he had a little twinge. We couldn’t take a risk with him but hopefully he won’t be too bad.”

Pogba, meanwhile, was making his first appearance after a nine-match absence. The Frenchman sustained a hamstring problem in early February's 3-3 draw with Everton and he looked eager to make up for lost time in the second half at San Siro, especially when he smashed in the all-important away goal.

“Paul of course needs to get football back into his system. You could see what he gives us when he's on the pitch,” said Solskjaer.

“Technically, he’s one of the best footballers around. It was a very good slot,” added the United boss.

“I'm very happy for Paul that he’s back now and the boys have done very well in the two months without him.

“We’ve worked hard, playing a game every three days, and now we’ve added Donny and David is back," said Ole, referring to the return of midfielder van de Beek and goalkeeper De Gea among United's unused subs in Italy.

As for the recent problem position of striker, Solskjaer gave us the positive news that he could soon have a full complement to select from.

Anthony Martial went off at half-time in the first leg against Milan at Old Trafford a week ago, while Edinson Cavani's hopes of making a comeback in the return fixture were dashed when he suffered a reaction in training on Wednesday and had to be removed from the the Reds' travelling squad.

“Hopefully Anthony and Edinson are back soon, so it’s looking bright.”

Ole could provide further United team news for the weekend's game at Leicester, when he gives club media an exclusive pre-match interview this Friday afternoon.
