Rashford: You don't want to leave on a loss

Saturday 12 November 2022 22:30

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has insisted his full focus is on helping the Reds to head into the upcoming mid-season break in perfect fashion, as we prepare to take on Fulham in the Premier League tomorrow afternoon (16:30 GMT).

Having successfully beaten Aston Villa by 4-2 in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening, Erik ten Hag's side responded in the best possible way after suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Villans at Villa Park just days prior to our second meeting.

With the season now set to pause for a little over a month for the World Cup in Qatar, Marcus will link up with the Three Lions, following his selection by England boss Gareth Southgate earlier this week

But before then, our attention now swiftly turns to our final action before the competition in the Middle East, at Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, and our no.10 has insisted both he and his fellow United team-mates are, of course, determined to temporarily sign off from club action with a victory in the capital.

''Definitely,'' responded Rashford, when he was asked by journalists on Thursday if he hopes to depart for Qatar on a positive note.

''You don't want to leave on a loss as it's never nice to lose any game of football, but at the same time, if we don't play well we can't just expect to win games.

''We have to defend a lot better than we did [against Aston Villa] and we always have to attack a lot better in order to help us create more chances. Hopefully against Fulham we can do that.''

The club season is to spring back into life in December, with Ten Hag's men to face Burnley in the Carabao Cup in the midweek after the World Cup final, as well as Nottingham Forest and Wolves in the Premier League before the calendar year draws to a close.

Keen to build on solid foundations to the campaign so far, Marcus has insisted that the hard work will continue upon our full return and has amplified the feelgood factor around the club at present.

''I think everyone is excited,'' added Rashford. ''We have hard a start that has been really good at times, but then also not so good in other times.

''That is part and parcel of the development of the squad and that is what we are trying to do here, as we know its not going to happen overnight.

''But at the same time we want it to so that we can [get] better [and] push on to challenge for success and trophies.''
