Rashford aims for start of redemption

Thursday 09 March 2023 09:59

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is relishing the chance to get back to winning ways, as we prepare to take on Real Betis in the Europa League at Old Trafford this evening (Thursday).

The first leg of our last-16 tie against the Spanish outfit - set for a 20:00 GMT kick-off - will be the very first time United face Betis in competitive action, and our first fixture following the disappointing defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.

Marcus, who has not shied away from his own pain following the loss on Merseyside, is keen to kick on and ensure a positive result, as we chase down further silverware under Erik ten Hag this season.

Speaking exclusively to club media ahead of the clash with Betis, our no.10 acknowledges that Manuel Pellegrini's men will provide a stern test in M16.

Rashford: An opportunity to redeem ourselves

Marcus Rashford can’t wait to get back out on the pitch as United look to respond in the perfect manner…

"It's obviously going to be a massive challenge. We expect them like most Spanish teams to be comfortable on the ball, comfortable in possession," he began.

"They are going to bring the game to us and they have been in form at the moment in La Liga.

"It's going to hopefully be an exciting game, but we need to do our best to put ourselves in a good position for the tie."

Having faced our latest opponents already this season - albeit in a friendly match during the winter break - the Reds will hope to emerge victorious ahead of next week's second leg at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.

Bidding to put in a performance worthy of lifting those inside the Theatre of Dreams and notch another goal to add to his United tally of 25 across all competitions so far, Marcus is happy our busy schedule enables the Reds to have a swift chance at some form of redemption.

"Like I said to you, your next opportunity to almost redeem yourself as an individual and as a team is the next game," he added.

"For me, whenever we do lose a game, you just want to be back out on the pitch as quickly as possible.

"We have to be grateful that we get the opportunity to redeem ourselves and we have to try to take that with both hands."
