Rashford reacts to double award win
Marcus Rashford enjoyed a fruitful 2022/23 awards evening, emerging as Manchester United's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year while also collecting our Players' Player of Year award too.
Marcus has been in fine form this campaign, racking up 30 goals, and topped our fan vote for the historic Sir Matt Busby Award - the first Academy graduate to do so since 1998.
He was also the most popular vote among his team-mates, being named as United's Players' Player of the Year.
When collecting his team-mate-voted accolade, Rashford said he was 'proud' to have been given the prestigious honour by those he shares a dressing room with.
"It's obviously a proud moment," he said. "I feel I should have scored a few more, but, you know, there's always room for improvement.
"That's what I've been looking to do for next season.
"I'm pleased with how it went, but I'm looking forward to improve and hopefully getting better numbers in that next season."
Just minutes after accepting his Players' Player award, Marcus was back on the stage to receive the Sir Matt Busby Award - a prestigious accolade that has been previously held by Bruno Fernandes, Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy, to name a few.
Rashford once again expressed his pleasure, and explained how he came back at the beginning of the season with a point to prove.
"I feel a huge sense of pride," he said. "I just hope that more academy players can go on and win this award and feel what I'm feeling right now on the stage.
"The main reason why I came back into the season in the condition I was because that was probably my first summer where I was off.
"I was just hungry to get started with the new manager [and] new staff. In my mind I just had a positive feeling and based of this season, I wasn't wrong, but I hope we can keep pushing and keep moving forward.
"I'm very happy. Very pleased. I just want to say a big thanks to [my] team- mates [and] staff because without them pushing you every day in training you don't get to see the best version of me.
"I appreciate all of you guys and thank you very much."
What an incredible honour to win both the Sir Matt Busby and Player’s ‘Player Of The Year’ awards tonight. To have the support of both the fans and my teammates means the world - I couldn’t do it without you all. Thanks to the manager & all the staff for their phenomenal help ❤️ pic.twitter.com/BXaVUIQwWU— Marcus Rashford (@MarcusRashford) May 29, 2023
