Rashford injury update

Friday 26 March 2021 18:00

Marcus Rashford will play no part in England’s forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the FA has confirmed.

Rashford reported to St. George’s Park with an injury that ruled him out of the 5-0 win against San Marino and, following further assessment, it has been decided he will continue his rehabilitation with Manchester United.

He will therefore sit out of the upcoming games with Albania in Tirana on Sunday and Poland, at Wembley, three days later.

Marcus came off at half-time during the 1-0 win over AC Milan in the Europa League on 18 March, and didn't feature in the subsequent Emirates FA Cup defeat at Leicester.

The Foxes game was only the second United game he has missed all season, along with the 1-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League earlier this month.

The Three Lions handily dispatched San Marino even without Marcus, thanks to two goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and strikes by James Ward-Prowse, Raheem Sterling and Ollie Watkins.

On-loan midfielder Jesse Lingard played the full 90 minutes and assisted Calvert-Lewin's second, while Dean Henderson, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were all rested as unused substitutes.
